Vasthu Sastra for apartments

WHEN thinking of buying property, Vasthu Sastra suggests landedproperty is the best choice. However, more and more high-rise residential properties are being built in areas where land is scarce, so people might not have a choice in the type of property they buy.

While Vasthu Sastra principles are difficult to put into place in non-landed, high-rise property, it is not impossible.

To begin with, a potential buyer should note the following:

  • Survey the entire plot and ensure it is square or rectangular; irregular shapes with cuts and extensions are inauspicious. Make sure the main entrance to the high-rise is not in the inauspicious south-west quadrant.
  • The ground should be flat or higher in the south and west, and lower or depressed in the north, east or north-east of the plot; if the plot is slightly projected in the north-east, it will bring prosperity and happiness to property occupants.
  • It is ideal if the apartment building’s plot is bounded by roads on all four sides; avoid a block where the main entrance is facing a T-junction as this is a major fault.
  • If the space surrounding the block is unequal, there should be more space in the east and north than the south and west; ensure that there are no tall structures like mountains or buildings in the north, east or north-east of the apartment block’s plot.
  • A swimming pool should be in the north-east, north or east.
  • The garden should be in eastern and northern sides of the building.
  • The compound’s walls should be taller in the south and west compared to the north, east and north-east.
  • After the exterior of the apartment block has been checked, next look at Vasthu rules in relation to the interior. Check where the staircase or lifts are located; according to Vasthu Sastra rules there should not be a staircase in the north-east or south-west corners (other points are all right).
  • If the apartment block has a standby generator, it should be located in the south-east.
  • The main door into the apartment block can be located in any of the compass directions except south-west.
  • The kitchen plays a very important part in the well-being of a family; according to Vasthu Sastra requirement, it must be located only in the south-east or north-west of the apartment.
  • For the master bedroom, the first choice is the south-west quadrant, the second choice is south, third choice is west and fourth choice will be north-west.
  • Make sure the breadwinner of the family does not sleep in the south- east or he or she will be hot tempered and experience mood disturbances.
  • A couple should also avoid sleeping in the north-east of the apartment as it will affect their health, finances and children’s health.
  • The dining space should be in the west.
  • Balconies should be located in the east or north and there should be more windows in those directions.
  • It is auspicious for the penthouse to be located in the south or south- west.
  • Toilets should not be located in the north-east or south-west corners; a toilet in the north-east will affect the progress of the breadwinner and if in the south-west, more expenditure than income will occur
