Look out for May 7 and buy gold ornaments on that day because it is an
auspicious day in the Indian Vedic calendar.
Individuals buying such valuables on that particular day will enjoy
endless wealth and prosperity.
One of the four most auspicious days of the Vedic calendar is Akshaya
Tritiya, (a Sanskrit word) which falls on May 7, day of good luck,
fortune and success.
(The other three being the Ugadi, Vijayadashami and Balipaadyami, which
are all celebrated widely).
On this day, the sun and the moon are simultaneously at their peak of
brightness.
According to the Tritiya legend, which originates from the Mahabharata
(India's greatest epic), the word Akshaya means one that never diminishes.
Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third lunar day from the new moon.
The reason for this day to be auspicious is the position of Sun and Moon
on that day.
Every year, Akshaya Tritiya falls between April 14th and May 14th.
During this period, Sun will be in Aries, which is in exalted position and
Moon in Taurus, which is also in exalted position.
As the Sun, the lord of the planets and the Moon the lord of creativity
are exalted, the day is considered to be a very auspicious day.
This sacred day is considered more significant if it falls on a Wednesday
or
Friday, in this case it falls on a Wednesday next month.
On this day, it would be a good time to bring home the image of the
Goddess of Wealth (Lakshmi), in any form, gold, silver, platinum, diamond
or precious stones and property.
The legend states that any venture initiated on this day shall continue to
grow and bring prosperity.
In India, the day is celebrated grandly and people purchase jewellery
because valuables that are acquired on May 7 are expected to be
replenished endlessly.
The day is also recognised for our good deeds and the individuals are
blessed abundantly. This is the reason why many people make donation,
give alms (guru
dakshina) on this day, in the hope of earning merit for life.
Also on the same day it is also urged to get blessings from parents and
guardian who takes care of you.
Performing the Mahalakshmi ritual in the house is recommended as the
special ceremony will remove all negative entities and invoke the space
with prosperous subtle energy.
According to scriptures, this day is considered sacred and donating
certain items such as umbrellas, fans or sandals to the holy men is
encouraged.
It is also urged to treat people to a feast.
All married women and unmarried women should take part in the prayers
particularly the Goddess of Wealth prayer.
Why women in particular?
This is because in Indian culture women are regarded as the beauty and
wealth of the house.
On this day people are urged to throng jewellery shops for purchase under
the notion that they would be bestowed with all the benefits of material
plane.
As gold is considered very auspicious and safest investment, people should
purchase gold on Akshaya Tritiya.
In Indian mythology an auspicious date, month, year or time should be
observed for all new beginnings so that every individual following it
will be blessed with prosperity, health, happiness and peace of mind.
Such good days and time are found in the Indian almanac daily, weekly,
monthly and annually, indicating the favourable and unfavourable periods.
Some people follow them with religious significance yearly, monthly,
weekly and a substantial number also follow the bright and dark sides of
everyday hourly.
This is applied when people are seeking to purchase a house, valuables,
vehicle, starting a journey, first meeting of a bride or groom, new
business ventures and all other important events.
This aspect of the ancient wisdom continues to draw great significance in
modern times and as people use them as a guide in their decision making
especially involving major events in their lives.tselvas@pd.jaring.my
